Jessica took the time to fill out our short questionnaire, so we could really get to know her, as a thank you for all the hard work she does crafting her magical photos, we had to share it with you all! Make sure you click her ticket above and follow her on IG and show her some much-deserved love! Without further ado.... let's sit back and relax with a nice cup of coffee while we learn all about Jessica's reading habits!
Question 1: What sparked your love of reading? (Give me all the deets!)
Both my parents are avid readers and some of my earliest memories are being read to before bed or during bathtime. My mom read me fantasy books like Anne McCaffrey's Harper Hall trilogy and set me on a path of a lifelong obsession with worlds quite unlike our own.
- I love this! My mom and I share that bond of her reading fantasy books to me when I was younger, and with me too! It's the best!
Question 2: What book could you read over and over again and never get tired of?
Tamora Pierce's Alanna: The First Adventure. It's my heart book.
Question 3: When did you start blogging? For books or otherwise?
I started my blog (I Read to Relax) about fifteen years ago to review and feature books for fun. I was also professionally reviewing books for library journals at that time. Then as my jobs became more and more demanding, I tapered off from blogging every day. Three years ago I found bookstagram and LOVED the fact that I'd be able to combine my love of talking books to anyone and everyone and photography, which I'd also done as a hobby since high school.
Question 4: WHY did you start Bookstagramming (or Book Blogging/Toking etc.) in particular? What drives you (other than the love of books LOL)? The community? The creative side? The review writing part? Taking photos?
As I mentioned already, I have done photography as a hobby since high school, and when I realized that I could combine that with my love of talking books, it was a match made in heaven!! I love cover designs and reviewing books, so this particular outlet is my absolute favorite way of social media.
Question 5: Name a book you think doesn’t get enough hype in any of the na/adult fantasy/pnr romance genres! Indie or mainstream publishing!
Kate Locke's Immortal Empire trilogy. Absolutely. I am obsessed with that series.
- I hadn't heard of this until just now... and I'm ashamed of myself because it looks incredible! I 100% just 1-clicked the first book!
Question 6: What are you currently reading? Bonus: What’s up next?
Current read: This Side of Murder by Anna Lee Huber.
Next up is Last Guard by Nalini Singh.
-Nalini is a fave of mine too!
Question 7: What’s your favorite sub-genre of fantasy? (References if you need them: https://www.papermythsmedia.com//genreandheatlevelguides)
I am obsessed with urban fantasy, paranormal romance, and all things steampunk. If you combine all three (The Immortal Empire) I'm SOLD!
Question 8: How about your favorite tropes? (Examples: Enemies to lovers? Fated Mates, Love Triangle, Fairytale Retelling, Assassins, Pirates, Thieves etc.)
I love fated mates, enemies to lovers, and secret royals.
Final Question: Last but not least… Who’s your wildest dream unicorn author to work with/receive an arc of their book/do a tour with?
Right now, either Tracy Wolff or Nalini Singh.
Thanks so much to Jessica for taking the time to chat books with us!
